Get Away

View from our room.

Two weekends ago Victor and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary by taking a mini vacation to the Bacara Resort & Spa in Goleta.  This was our first overnight trip away from the kid who was lovingly cared for by my mom, aunt, and cousin.  I have to admit that it was difficult to leave him at first, however the stream of pictures and videos I received on my iPhone made the vacation away from baby Nicholas much easier to handle.

Anyhoo, we arrived at the resort an hour later than we expected due to the insane traffic caused by the last day of Santa Barbara’s Fiesta and the forever road construction on the 101.  We had originally scheduled a 5pm tee time at the Sandpiper Golf Course, which is located on a cliff overlooking the ocean next to the resort, but had to move it back an hour since we arrived late.

Victor and I first bonded through our love of golf.  In between our work shifts at Hiro Sushi, we would head to the River Ridge Golf Course and hit some balls at the driving range.  That was like 11 years ago and we haven’t played since, which clearly explains why our game at the Sandpiper was so horrific.  Needless to say, we did not finish all 18 holes, not even close.  So before it got dark, we decided to end our game early and take a joyride through the whole course to enjoy the sunset.

When we returned to our comfortably appointed room at the Bacara, we were surprisingly welcomed by a nicely chilled bottle of champagne (accompanied by a sweet thank you we saw you on twitter card), which we indulged in before our late dinner at the Bistro.

Here are some pics of our room with a view.  Note that we had a fireplace, free wifi, as well as, a Sony HDTV with a full line up of cable channels!

For the remainder of our stay, we enjoyed eating at the Spa Cafe (they have awesome smoothies!), dining at the Bistro (unfortunately Miro was closed while we were there), walking the grounds, and strolling on the beach.  We did not partake in any spa activities or pool time, but we did check out both and they looked dreamy.  Definitely will have to put in some pool and spa time the next time we stay at the Bacara.

Overall, we truly enjoyed our mini vacation at the Bacara and have plans to come back again, this time bringing little Nic and Sami since the resort is very family and pet friendly.  Oh, and for those of you that are celeb obsessed, the Bacara hosts a slew of celebrity guests at their resort.  The day we arrived, Michael Jordan and his crew had just checked out and the a couple weekends after our trip many of Kim Kardashian’s wedding guests were staying at the hotel. Ooh la la.

The most famous celebrities of them all.

Mamarama

For Mother’s Day, my mom and I decided to treat ourselves to a last minute mini vacation in Ojai.

We opted to stay at the Ojai Valley Inn to relax and take in some new scenery.

This was the first time my mom visited the Inn, whereas I’ve been here many times with my best friend, Cher.  Her mom is the Spa Concierge at the resort, and we’ve spent many days lounging around the spa and indulging in tasty alcoholic beverages by the pool.

Anyhoo, my mom really enjoyed our stay and hopes to go back again for a longer visit.  There is so much to do and see while you’re in Ojai that one day was just not enough to take it all in.  Hopefully I can convince the family to stay at the Inn for Christmas.  It’s always been my dream to get away for the holidays to relax and NOT cook a thing!

I Love You

I wake up everyday to your smiling face

Wondering what delights you will shower upon me.

I depend on you like there’s no tomorrow,

And I have no clue what I would do without you.

I can’t even fathom

What I did before you came into my life.

It must have been mundane.

So, I deeply apologize for being so negligent today.

I did not mean to leave you behind,

Feeling so alone in the gloomy, desolate streets.

I’m fortunate to have quickly realized what I had lost

And immediately found you

Where I had last seen you.

Sitting on the corner of the street.

I love you,

My dear little iPhone!

Week 38

Just 2 weeks to go!

For the past few weeks my days have become very unproductive.  I have definitely slowed down and am surprised that I even have the energy to cook, let alone take a shower.

Here’s a look at a typical day in my current condition:

8:00 am  - Wake up

8:30-10:30 am – Drink tea, eat breakfast, stare at the computer screen

10:30-11:30 am – Walk Sami

11:30am-12:30pm – Cook & eat lunch

12:30-2:30pm – Stare at the computer screen

2:30-4:30pm – Take a nap

4:30-6:30pm – Cook, eat, clean

6:30-7:00pm – Walk Sami

7:00pm-12:00am – Lay in bed watching TV until I get tired

12:00-8:00am – Attempt to get a good night’s sleep even though I seem to wake up every hour to either relieve myself or find a more comfortable sleeping position.

I really don’t know how any of my friends did it, but I’m so freakin’ glad I’m not working or going to school at the moment!

Week 37

Just 3 weeks to go.

Week 35

Five more weeks to go!

Today, Vic and I had our first “official” meeting with our doula, Jaci.  It went well, and we already scheduled our second meeting for next month before the baby comes.  We, also, started taking her natural child birth classes earlier this month.  I’m glad we’re taking the class since Victor isn’t into reading books or the articles that I email him.  I think the more informed he is, the less likely he will freak out on me.

I hope.

Anyway, now I just need to do my homework for the class, and this week my job is to make a playlist…but I’ve never been good at doing homework.  That probably doesn’t sound good coming from a former teacher, but then I never did assign much homework for my history students.  I just made them review/update their Cornell notes and write a summary & questions.  Anyway, since my homework isn’t too grueling, I guess I’ll make an exception this time.

Week 34

6 more weeks to go!  The little critter is moving around like crazy, and is probably feeling very cramped in my belly.  I have a friend that had twins a couple years ago, and I can’t imagine what it must have felt like to have two of them little boogers squirming in there.

There’s No Denying…

…that I’m pregnant and not just fat.

Week 31

63 more days!

Beach Day

Sami and I decided to take a long, relaxing, and much deserved stroll on the beach this morning. For the past week or so, we’ve been holed up in the house and only took short walks around the neighborhood while I’ve been working on my dreaded midterm paper.  Usually I can spit out an essay in no time, but for some reason this last paper I had difficulty getting started.  I’m not sure if it’s because I had to collect IRS data and use Excel (which I totally suck at) or if it’s because I didn’t quite understand what I was supposed to be writing about (many of my classmates felt the same way) or if it’s because I’m suffering from the Third Trimester Stupids.  However, I’m starting to think it might be the latter, especially since this afternoon I totally forgot to turn off the simple syrup I was making for the iced tea and almost set the fire alarm off.  Luckily Victor came inside just in time to turn off the stove and air out the house.  Mind you, I was sitting in the kitchen staring at the dishwasher while thinking about making orange juice when this all happened.

Anyhoo, I finally finished and turned in the dreaded midterm paper last night around 10pm (that’s midnight Texas A&M time). This morning when I woke up, I felt really good and completely rested despite going to bed way past midnight (let’s just say I took a very long three hour nap yesterday). My tension headache was totally gone, I no longer felt bloated and fat, and I actually had energy to do something.  Which I did!  I did many things, like walk the dog at the beach, cooked chicken tacos, made iced tea, squeezed some orange juice, made a milk shake, and cut up some cucumber to infuse my water with.

So, the whole reason why I’m even writing this blog post is to make another list. I feel like when I make my lists public, I’m held accountable and therefore must get it done because, you know, the two people out there that actually read my blog will be disappointed if I don’t.

My Blogging List:

1.  Monday — Baby related posts.

2.  Tuesday — Pictures and recipes of dishes I cooked recently.

3.  Wednesday — Life

4.  Thursday — Food, talk about food.

5.  Friday — Randomness

6.  Saturday — No blogging, just enjoying family

7.  Sunday — Another day off from my strenuous job of blogging about myself.

8.  Repeat, until no one cares anymore.
